Edventure More

What began as a small summer enrichment camp in 2004, has now grown into the Bay Area’s premier non-profit organization working to bring thousands of kids quality enrichment programs year-round.

Edventure More currently powers three enrichment services:

  • 1) Camp Edmo: A K-5 summer day camp featuring hands on Arts & Science, Animation and Recreation activities designed by the Exploratorium, CA Academy of Science, Museum of Children’s Art, Zeum and the YMCA.
  • 2) Camp Edtech: An entering 5th-9th grade digital media arts camp featuring Movie, Music, and Animation courses designed in partnership with Zeum.
  • 3) ICE (In-class Curriculum Enhancements): A school year program featuring Edventure More guest science presenters leading Exploratorium designed K-5 science experiments (that correlate with CA State Science Standards) in partner elementary schools across the Bay Area.
  • Look out for one more exciting addition coming in Fall 2009!

Edventure More Mission

Our mission is to create motivational enrichment programs that:

  • Unite the talents and specialties of like-minded local organizations
  • Serve as a year-round resource for parents
  • Support the enrichment efforts of our partner schools
  • Foster leadership and growth opportunities for our staff
  • Inspire a life-long curiosity and desire to learn in kids

Edventure More Philosophy

Our philosophy is in our name. Those feelings that come with an adventure; “excitement”, “wonder”, “anticipation”, “curiosity”, and “self-discovery” are the same emotions we elicit through our activities. Our approach to accomplish this is pretty simple:

  • First: Get kids curious. Start by asking good questions, presenting a challenge, or do a demonstration that makes them say “Wow! How did you do that!?
  • Second: Get kids doing. Through hands-on projects kids actively learn. Like an old Chinese proverb goes: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
  • Third: Get kids laughing. Humor creates positive associations with learning. After we make something, we figure out how to turn it into a game. When you play, you laugh. When you laugh, you want to learn more.
  • Fourth: Get kids cooperating. Helping other builds confidence, self-esteem, team work skills, reinforces concepts and teaches them about being good people…an equal, if not more important, lesson that we teach at camp.
  • Fifth: Get kids inspired. Challenge kids to try new ways to experiment or create at home. Give them and their parents resources so they can continue the exploring on their own. Camp lasts only a short time. Inspiration lasts forever.

Edventure More Founders

ed-sharon1The organization was co-founded by Sharon Mor and Ed Caballero, in January of 2004. Ed is a San Francisco native and graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Psychology. Raised in Cupertino, Sharon is a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Sociology. Combined, Sharon and Ed have over 20 years experience working in the field of summer camps, enrichment programming, motivational tutoring, and mentoring. During this time they witnessed first-hand that kids could discover previously untapped passions and interests when they learned in a positive, upbeat and supportive environment.

Despite the growth of the organization, both Ed and Sharon remain involved in essential aspects of camp. Ed still personally tests and approves every Science, Art and Animation activity kids experience at camp. Sharon still spearheads staff training and development programs. Both personally select each Camp Director and both can be found romping from site to site during the summer, giving encouragement and praise to kids and staff all summer long!
